The Upshur Building is a 35,000 SF industrial warehouse located in the emerging NW Industrial District, affectionally referred to as “The Squish”. The building was constructed in 1952 and in 2015 was fully remodeled into a grocery store for well know and established Cash & Carry.
The Squish District is a funny shaped, quasi-triangular portion of NW portland bounded by NW Naito Parkway, Nw 19th, NW Thurman and NW Vaughn. The areas is literally ‘squished' between the Willamette River, NW 23rd, The Pearl District and the Guild’s Lake Industrial Sanctuary. The buildings within the district offer a hidden fragment of Portland’s Industrial past, containing a strong sampling of turnof-the-centry and mid-century industrial structures. It is a unique place, now filled with artists, to-the-trade designer businesses, heavy industrial manufacturers, a Montessori school, coffee shops, restaurants, nurseries, filmmakers, and iconic Portland Tea Master, Steven Smith.
